Advocate Malesela Teffo Levels Explosive Allegations Against Ex-Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela

Controversial former advocate Malesela Teffo, who was struck off the legal roll in 2022, has publicly accused ex-Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela of being at the centre of the province’s drug supply operations.

Teffo aired these explosive claims during a recent appearance on the “Podcast and Chill with MacG” show (temporarily hosted by JJ Sesing), stating that Mawela is “the one supplying the drugs in Gauteng,” and detailing his alleged intimate knowledge of Mawela’s illicit activities.

Teffo’s credibility is contentious—he was disbarred after being found guilty of unethical conduct, including directly soliciting briefs and filing unfounded allegations, such as claiming a judge practiced witchcraft. Yet, he insists Mawela orchestrated his disbarment.

He also asserts that police misconduct and corruption tainted the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder case, accusing Mawela and other senior officials of interference to protect powerful interests. Teffo warns that whistleblowers within SAPS face severe reprisals beyond dismissal.

Defending the innocence of the five accused in the Meyiwa case, Teffo suggested the real shooter remains inside the victim’s home and that the weapon was never removed. He even claimed Meyiwa was accidentally shot by a guest—Kelly Khumalo—while she passed him a firearm, amid a domestic dispute.

Teffo claims two accused, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, had alibis backed by eyewitness and research evidence, and that other individuals at the scene remain at large.

He reiterates a broader narrative of political interference, recalling how he was arrested in 2022 and alleging that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office played a role in his downfall, labelling him a "problematic advocate".

Although Teffo’s dramatic accusations amplify his long-standing claims of corruption, observers caution his history of disbarment and unverified allegations calls into question the reliability of his statements.
